YOU A ROTARACTOR? REALLY?

Before all you fanatics jump the gun and answer in the affirmative, proceed reading this post. Of course most of you feel you are rotaractors; after all, you were inducted after members concurred that you were a guest of good standing and that you were held in high regard to be a member who would add value to your respective Rotaract Club.

However, if looks were anything to go by, then yes, we are all rotaractors. But as it will ever be very well put, looks re deceiving and judging a book by the cover is a deceitful and erroneous way of operating.

So, what, then, entails being a true rotaractor? As a product of rotary, Rotaract basically draws its values from rotary and rotary ways. These basically include integrity of the highest order in everything rotaractors do. In essence, Rotary seeks to bring people from different professions and businesses together for the sole purpose of creating a better society, through interactions that help people identify problems in the society and pool together to find an agreeable, involving  and effective solution.

Indeed the 4-way test summarizes what Rotary and Rotaract stand for. Is it the truth, fair to all concerned, beneficial and will it build good will and better friendships? The application of this principle ensures that people run their lives whilst withholding the highest regard for morality and nobility, as well as consideration to the next human being, and now to the environment. This applies to all genres in life including in relationships, businesses, careers among others.

Rotary in Action, Rotaract is. So how do you quantify your being a rotaractor? Do you attend fellowships and other activities? Do you represent you vocation in your club and vice versa at your workplace for Rotaract? Are you fond of giving too many excuses as to why you are a member yet club members can not recall the last time you participated in the club, in fellowships or activities?

Are you involved in any of the four avenues of service: club, community, professional development and/or international services? Granted, life comes knocking sometimes and we can’t attend activities no matter how much we want to. However, this should happen sometimes, not all times or your commitment to the club will be shrouded with doubt from the rest of the members.

You are your own best judge, and the only person you can not lie to. Rotaract comes with responsibilities that you, once a member, have decided to take upon. To our soon-to-be-inducted members, we hope that you will get into the Rotaract way and honor your pledge to be a true representative of the club.

This first post on the first blog by RCNE is specially dedicated to first things in life: to the firsts of creation, to all 'mikais', to 'first bodies', to the first winner of the first Kenyan akankanto that was and all that are in any way first...I give you the first post.

Firstly, first: the ordinal form number one – here implying leadership, freshness, newness....hope you are the first one to read this, or better yet to comment, to like or even hate. Feels like writing on the first page of a book...only that firstly I have nothing specific to dwell on, just wanted to feel the thrill of being first to blog, so I'll probably draw on this first page, wonder drawing...

Judging from the first part of the Rotaract year 2011-2012, a year when RCNE turns 15 later in November 22, this is fast becoming a successful one, all thanks to the committed board, a committed member and committed guests plus the committed Rotaract Family. Already more than half a dozen fellowships down, already each and every line of service with a list of first accomplishments...already! Still, much more is on its way, on our road of fellowship through service to reaching within to embrace humanity, hope we have enough east effect fuel to last us through the journey ….

Yeah, I did it first....no longer a virgin blog now....
